What is the Awakening?

Southport Great Banquet ministry supports The Awakening which is a dynamic, structured weekend for teenagers (High School Freshman to Seniors). The Awakening is designed to bring participants to an awareness of who Jesus Christ is, the need we have to trust Him as Savior and to begin to make Him Lord in all areas of life. The focus of the Awakening is to discover Jesus, follow Jesus and to live for Jesus.  The Awakening is intended to inspire, challenge and equip each person and community that attends towards the Love and Truth of God.

The Image (or inspiration) of the Awakening Weekend

I Samuel 3:1-10 is the biblical image of the Awakening. Samuel is a boy who ministers to the Lord under Eli, the priest. One night as Samuel is lying down within the temple of the Lord, the Lord calls, “Samuel! Samuel!”.   Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him, so he did not recognize who was calling him. After the Lord calls Samuel three times, Eli perceives that it is the Lord calling. He instructs Samuel to respond with, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears,” when the Lord calls again. Samuel does as Eli instructs, and hears from the Lord. The Weekend is about hearing God speak to your heart personally.

What happens at the Awakening?

• The Awakening is 3 days (beginning at 11:30am Friday Morning – ending approximately 4:30pm on Sunday) in which the participants (“sleepers”) live and study together in a worshipful time of singing, prayer, and discussion.

• There are 15 talks throughout the weekend with the theme of awakening to God’s call on our lives.

• “Sleepers” will examine more fully the reality and presence of Christ in their life and the community of believers.

• Each person will have the opportunity to personally experience the grace of the Lord through prayer, the Word of God, and the actions of a Christian community.
